What is EDTA Manganese?

2026-11-04

EDTA-Manganese, commonly known as EDTA-Mn, is a fully chelated trace element fertilizer produced by the chelation reaction between manganese ions and EDTA disodium salt. As a popular water-soluble micronutrient raw material in modern agriculture, it differs greatly from ordinary inorganic manganese salts such as manganese sulfate. Free manganese ions from inorganic manganese fertilizer are prone to react with carbonate, bicarbonate, phosphate and hydroxide in soil or nutrient solution, forming insoluble precipitates that cannot be absorbed by crops. Once chelated by EDTA, manganese ions are wrapped inside the stable chelate ring structure, which can effectively avoid being fixed by soil components. This special structure guarantees that manganese remains available for plant uptake for a longer time. It is widely adopted in field planting, greenhouse cultivation, commercial hydroponics and soilless culture systems around the world.
