EDTA Chelated Calcium: Core Roles From Fruit Cracking Prevention to Quality Improvement

2026-10-16

Calcium is an essential element for crop cell wall synthesis, cell membrane stability and signal transduction. Calcium deficiency in crops can cause typical physiological diseases such as tomato blossom end rot, apple bitter pit, grape cracking and citrus water core, seriously affecting yield and commercial value.

After being applied to soil, common inorganic calcium fertilizers such as calcium nitrate and calcium chloride are easily fixed into insoluble compounds, with an actual crop utilization rate of less than 15%. With its stable chelated structure, EDTA chelated calcium greatly improves the bioavailability of calcium: effects can be seen 3-5 days after foliar spraying, and calcium deficiency symptoms can be effectively relieved 7-10 days after soil application.

In addition to correcting calcium deficiency physiological diseases, EDTA calcium can also promote crop root development and enhance root nutrient absorption capacity. It increases fruit cell wall thickness and firmness, reduces bruising damage during post-harvest transportation, and extends shelf life by 2-4 days. Meanwhile, it enhances crop tolerance to adversities such as drought and low temperature, and improves fruit surface gloss and color uniformity, making it a core nutrient input for high-quality fruit and vegetable cultivation.
